CRESTVIEW, Fla. (TCN) — Immediately after being found guilty, a man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the fatal 2019 shootings of his parents and their two dogs.
On March 11, Jacob Daniel Price, 30 at the time of the shootings, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree premeditated murder and two counts of animal cruelty, State Attorney Ginger Bowen Madden announced in a press release. Following the verdict, circuit Judge David Oberliesen sentenced Price to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
At trial, evidence was shown that on Nov. 13, 2019, Price shot his parents, 56-year-old Robert Price and 51-year-old Jolene Price, in the heads while they were asleep at their home. The couple’s dog, Nala, was sleeping in the bed with them, and was shot once in the head, according to the state attorney. Their other dog, Cooper, ran into the dining room, where he was also shot in the head. An arrest report states that two additional dogs were found unharmed at the home.
According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, Price lived with his parents at the time. Immediately following the shootings, Price went to the police station and confessed.
Price served as a field radio operator in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2009 to 2013, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News. A spokeswoman for the Marine Corps, Yvonne Carlock, said Price left the service because “the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps’ expectations and standards.”
An obituary for Jolene and Robert Price says the couple was married for 32 years. They were restaurant owners who enjoyed cooking, hosting, gardening, and spending time with their pets. “Their favorite place was anywhere their children and grandchildren were,” the obituary said.
