The latest rumor making its rounds on The Valley? When Jason Caperna goes out, he takes off his wedding ring. Though Kristen Doute is the one who dropped the bombshell on camera, Jasmine Goode was one of her sources — and it turns out, there’s way more to the story.
On The Valley After Show for Season 2, Episode 7, Jasmine explained that she first heard the allegation three years ago at a birthday party with a group that Jason “wasn’t friends with anymore, at the moment,” adding, “A lot of things were said — not just him taking off his ring.”
Though Jasmine didn’t elaborate, she echoed Luke Broderick‘s comment from the episode that these unnamed friends were “upset” with Jason’s wife, Janet Caperna, at the time. Jasmine downplayed the validity of the claims, theorizing that someone was likely just “pissed off” that Jason missed their birthday “because of his wife.” As she put it, “It was a lot of talking.”
Janet separately pointing out in the above clip that these friends later denied ever saying such a thing came as little surprise to Jasmine. In fact, she’d already discussed that exact scenario with partner Melissa Marie, who was also present to hear the rumor at the birthday party in question.
“She said, ‘Well, Jasmine, what do they have to gain to actually tell him the truth right now?'” the former NFL cheerleader recalled. “They’re in a good place with him right now. They’re scared of Janet. They have said that multiple times. They don’t know what she can do. They’re like, ‘We don’t want to deal with it.'”
Luke Broderick’s involvement in the rumors about Jason Caperna not wearing his wedding ring
Luke, for his part, insisted that he “tried to get Kristen to not” accuse Jason of hiding his wedding ring because the rumor could be false. Since they knew the name of the friend who supposedly made the claim, he suggested they reach out to him “to see if it’s legit,” first.
Jason said as much himself about Luke’s plan “to vet the rumor” (which he vehemently denied, btw) before bringing it up on camera. According to Janet, Kristen’s now-fiancé “requested to follow a bunch of Jason’s friends that he’s never met on Instagram” in an effort to “dig up information” on him.
Before Luke made any progress, however, Kristen spilled the tea during lunch with him and Jesse Lally on Episode 7.
“[Luke] was mad at Kristen ’cause she dropped it without doing his due diligence to see if it was accurate,” Jason dished on the After Show, adding that he never repeated any of the “negative stuff” he’d read about Luke. “I was like, dude, ask me. … I’ve given him no reason to not trust me.”
Why Kristen Doute repeated the Jason Caperna rumor
As for why Kristen even mentioned the allegations in the first place, she revealed on the episode that Jason was on her “s–t list” for getting “so worked up” about Danny Booko sleeping through dinner on the Santa Barbara trip, while wife Nia Sanchez Booko supposedly covered for him.
“The only reason that I brought it up is because they are being so incredibly judgmental and mean to Danny and Nia. So that is where I get really pissed off,” Kristen explained. “F–k with me all you want. You f–k with my friends and family, I’m gonna take you down. Mama bear’s coming out to play.”
As she also told Luke and Jesse, “Jason’s in no space to be judging anyone’s relationship. Keep your wedding ring on all the time, and then you can start talking.”
Jason didn’t buy Kristen’s defense, however, claiming on the After Show that Luke “added my buddy on Instagram before I said anything about Danny.”
As he saw it, “This was like, premeditated, OK, this summer we’re taking out Jason. You know what I mean? Like, that really rubbed me the wrong way.”
Janet, meanwhile, brushed off the rumor, adding that if Jason supposedly removing his ring was “the best thing that Detective Doute could get,” she felt “pretty good” about their marriage.
