A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after he smashed a family’s kitchen window and broke in, claiming to be an Immigration and Customs enforcement agent as he demanded paperwork and tried to steal a video game console.
Pittsburgh police were called to a burglary in progress Saturday night in the city’s Beltzhoover neighborhood, KDKA reported. As officers were en route, they were told that a tenant had knocked the intruder unconscious.
The found the intruder, later identified as William Gregory, unconscious on the floor. A juvenile was standing in a doorway with injuries to his ankle and hand, police said.
According to WTAE, the boy was 17. Court documents say Gregory broke into the home and demanded to see paperwork, identifying himself as an ICE agent. Brandishing a pocketknife, Gregory began to steal a PlayStation console and controllers.
He also forcibly took the teen’s cell phone, leading to the boy fighting back and ultimately punching him in the face.
Gregory regained consciousness as police were handcuffing him, and he resisted arrest, KDKA said. It took multiple officers and taser to subdue him.
Medics arrived on the scene and sedated the fake ICE officer then took him to Mercy Hospital for an evaluation. Police said he appeared heavily intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs.
The officers learned he had outstanding warrants, including for burglary and possession of a firearm.
Gregory is charged with ethnic intimidation and burglary and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail, WTAE reported.
