Florida man allegedly threw hot grease at girlfriend, stole her car after argument over phone charger

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 23-year-old man is in custody after an argument with his girlfriend allegedly escalated to physical violence, according to police.

Authorities received a domestic disturbance call and dispatchers could hear a woman screaming in the background, WESH reports. Officers responding to the apartment spoke with the woman, whose name has not been released. She is reportedly the girlfriend of the suspect, Jontrai Stephens.

According to Tom Goodyear, the public information officer for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the couple began arguing about the location of a phone charger, WESH reports. The suspect then allegedly got physical, battering the woman and breaking her TV. According to an arrest report obtained by the outlet, Stephens then allegedly took a hot pan of steak and potatoes from the stove and threw it at the woman. When he allegedly took her car keys, she followed him in an attempt to stop him from taking her car.

ClickOrlando reports the victim climbed onto the trunk of the car. According to the victim, the suspect allegedly drove erratically, stopping and starting abruptly, eventually throwing her off the car. Investigators said, “(Stephens’) actions did cause great bodily harm and possible permanent disfigurement to the victim.”

The victim’s car was located nearby, along with the suspect, WESH reports. Stephens was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault with domestic violence, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. ClickOrlando reports he is being held without bond.
