MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of trying to shoot his roommate in the head with a crossbow.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of Sept. 16, deputies responded to a home on Largo Road in reference to a disturbance. A 69-year-old victim led authorities to George Balboni, who was in the front yard and bleeding from the face.
The sheriff’s office located multiple arrows near Balboni. Allegedly, Balboni “lured” the victim to a car and attempted to shoot him with an arrow but missed. The victim sustained a minor cut to his ear, and the two got into a fight. The victim allegedly took the crossbow and struck Balboni with it, and he fell to the ground.
According to the sheriff’s office, Balboni said he shot the crossbow at the victim, who he described as a “parasite.” Balboni reportedly further said he “has no remorse.”
The suspect was transported to a hospital for injuries to his head.
Upon further investigation, the sheriff’s office learned the two roommates “have a history of arguments and have lived together for several years.”
Balboni alleged that the victim went through his trash and discovered vodka, which made him upset, and he “decided to kill the victim at that point.”
Balboni was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
In a statement, Sheriff Rick Ramsay said, “Violence is never the answer to a roommate dispute. It’s much easier to separate yourself from the situation, but this person did the total opposite and now faces very serious criminal charges.”
