A Florida man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after his wife was found dead and floating in a nearby canal.
Coral Springs Police said that Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, called 911 Monday night just before 9 p.m. and said his wife was having a “mental break” and needed assistance., WPLG reported. Six minutes after that call, a second 911 caller reported hearing a woman scream, “My husband is trying to kill me.”
When police arrived, they found Jessica Lloyd, a Delray nurse, floating face down in the Broward County canal. She was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.
Hours later, Evans was charged with domestic violence with simple battery.
The arrest report says that he told detectives he and Lloyd were have problems and issues with infidelity. He said she had taken his laptop and that they struggled over it, but they made up and when he came to bed that night, she wasn’t there.
Evans also told them Lloyd ran outside screaming. He said he tried to restrain her and bring her back inside but stopped because he didn’t want to look like the aggressor.
Records show that Evans, a former firefighter, had a prior domestic violence charge in 202, before he met Lloyd.
Evans was given a $1,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor and surrender his passport.
Police said they are still investigating Lloyd’s death, WTVJ said.
