Florida truck driver allegedly shot cousin, stashed body in cab of tractor-trailer

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 41-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder and taken into custody after his cousin’s body was found in the cab of his tractor-trailer.

On Jan. 15, officers from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a suspicious person behaving erratically and rolling around on the ground behind a truck stop, WPBF reports.

When officers arrived, truck driver Olson Jean, 41, told them he was taking a break after “jogging around.” Officers also saw an unoccupied red tractor-trailer near an intersection and Jean reportedly told them he had nothing to do with it. The officers felt they had no cause to detain Jean, so they left to examine the tractor-trailer, according to WPBF.

WPTV reports the tractor-trailer appeared to have gone off the road into a ditch during a quick turn. Deputies canvassed the surrounding area and found a rifle, handgun, and magazines near a canal. The items appeared to have been placed there intentionally.

Officers also saw what appeared to be dried blood on the side of the tractor-trailer and more blood inside the cab, WPBF reports.

According to Law & Crime, investigators discovered the truck belonged to an LLC, and the owner of the LLC told officers he leased the truck to Jean.

Officers then located Jean inside the truck stop and transported him to the sheriff’s office for questioning, WPBF reports. He reportedly refused to answer investigators’ questions. The following day, the dried substance on the side of the tractor-trailer tested positive for human hemoglobin and a search warrant was executed.

Authorities then discovered the remains of 32-year-old Wendy Moncion in a storage compartment under the truck cab’s sleeping area, WPBF reports. He reportedly had a single gunshot wound to the head. According to the sheriff’s office, Moncion and Jean were cousins and Moncion was reportedly traveling with Jean to keep him company on the drive from Georgia to Florida. Moncion had reportedly told his wife that Jean appeared to be struggling with mental health issues, WPBF reports.

Jean was arrested Jan. 17 and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, tampering with evidence, and obstruction of justice without violence, WPBF reports.

He remains held without bond. No motive has been released.
