Floyd Allen Seay stabbed daughter multiple times: Cops

An 81-year-old man in Tennessee was arrested after he allegedly admitted that he tried to kill his own daughter, beating her with his bare hands before repeatedly stabbing her in the chest with a kitchen knife.

Floyd Allen Seay was taken into custody on Monday evening and charged with one count of attempted criminal homicide over the alleged attack.

According to a report from Nashville ABC affiliate WKRN, at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, officers with the Nashville Metro Police Department responded to a call regarding a possible domestic violence incident at a residence located in the 3000 block of Louise Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders said they located an adult female who appeared to be suffering from multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and face. A probable cause affidavit obtained by the station reportedly states that emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where doctors were able to get her in stable condition, despite the serious nature of her injuries.

Seay was also found at the residence and placed into custody by officers.

Police said they interviewed several witnesses from the neighboring homes, some of whom were able to provide them with surveillance footage that showed parts of the alleged incident between Seay and the victim, Nashville Fox and CW affiliate WZTV reported. The footage reportedly showed Seay and the victim — later identified as his daughter — getting into a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation in front of the residence

Seay can allegedly be seen grabbing his daughter by the head and pulling her down to the ground. He then reportedly uses his closed fists to strike her in the head several times. He then gets off the victim and goes inside, returning a short while later wielding a large kitchen knife. Seay can then be seen repeatedly stabbing his own daughter, WZTV reported.

After allegedly stabbing the victim multiple times, the 81-year-old man can be seen getting up and walking away from his daughter still holding the knife. Per WZTV, he then handed the knife to one of his neighbors who was at the scene and said, “I tried to kill her, but I couldn’t.”

In a subsequent interview with police, Seay reportedly said he did not regret his actions, claiming that the cause of the altercation was just “everything that had been building up” between him and his daughter, adding that he would act in the same manner if given the opportunity. He also allegedly admitted that he knowingly went inside and picked up the knife he used to stab his daughter, but told police that he was unsure as to why he grabbed the weapon, WZTV reported.

Seay was charged with one count of attempted criminal homicide and is currently being held in detention in lieu of $500,000 bond, records show. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Ana L. Escobar on Wednesday afternoon for his initial court appearance. He is being represented in the matter by Assistant Public Defender Brittania Poon. The public defender’s office did not immediately respond to a message from Law&Crime.
