Chicago police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a pregnant woman found in an alley in February.
Dontrell Anderson, 26, has been charged with first degree murder and concealing a homicidal death, WBBM reported. He was taken into custody in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, earlier this week and extradited to Illinois, to face trial in the death of 24-year-old Itzel Camarena.
Camarena was found between two trash cans in the city’s Southside Chatham neighborhood on February 18, as CrimeOnline reported. She was six months pregnant.
Anderson made his initial court appearance in Chicago on Saturday, and prosecutors said they have surveillance video that shows the defendant dragged Camarena’s body, wrapped in a sheet, from his apartment to the alley. They didn’t say if a weapon was recovered.
Investigators say that Anderson strangled and shot Camarena while she was visiting him at his family’s apartment, WLS reported.
Anderson admits he was in the apartment with Camarena but denied killing her.
The judge ruled that Anderson is a safety risk and denied bond
Vanessa Sanchez, Camarena’s mother, told WBBM her daughter and Anderson went to high school together, but she has no idea why he would want to kill her.
He is due in court again Tuesday morning.
