ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (TCD) — A 33-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of fatally striking his girlfriend’s husband with his truck last week.
Albuquerque Police allege Christopher Facey met his married girlfriend in the parking lot of a dog park at 5700 Bogart St. NW late on Friday, Jan. 12. According to KOB-TV, Facey and the woman had been involved in an affair for approximately 2 1/2 years.
The couple reportedly sat together in Facey’s black Nissan Titan truck, and the woman’s husband, Guadalupe Maldonado, drove up to the pair to confront his wife. The woman told police she ordered Facey to leave, but he didn’t.
The woman planned to exit the vehicle, but Facey reportedly began driving. According to police, the woman’s husband “stepped in front of the truck,” and Facey allegedly “accelerated and struck Maldonado, running over him.”
Maldonado’s wife and a friend transported him to an urgent care facility on Coors Boulevard, where doctors pronounced the victim dead shortly before 12 a.m.
By the time officers arrived, Facey had reportedly fled the scene. While there, police found blood, a hat, one shoe, as well as shattered glasses, KOB reports.
Officers located and arrested Facey on Saturday, Jan. 13, at approximately 8 a.m. on a charges of second-degree murder, accident involving death, and homicide by vehicle. He remains held in the Metropolitan Detention Center, and his bail has not yet been set.
According to KOB, Facey used to work as a guard for the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, where he assaulted an inmate in 2016. He was given six months of probation for the crime. Additionally, a girlfriend alleged he assaulted and imprisoned her in 2021.
