A former McKinney, Texas, city manager and his wife were found shot to death inside their home on Sunday, and their 34-year-old son was shot by police after he was found inside with a handgun
McKinney officers went to the home of Leonard and Jackie Ragan, 73 and 72, Sunday morning when family members reported they hadn’t heard from the couple in several days.
Police found the couple dead in the living room when they made entry. As they searched the home, they found Bryce Ragan in a bedroom with gun. Two officers opened fire, striking him “multiple times.”
According to WFAA, he refused officers’ commands to put down the gun.
“Officers immediately rendered lifessaving aid until emergency medical services arrived,” police said. “Ragn was transported by EMS to a local area hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.”
Police said the investigation into the shooting continues “and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Leonard Ragan served as McKinney’s city manager from 2008 to 2010.
“We have learned that former City Manager Frank Ragan and his wife were tragically found deceased in their home,” McKinney City Manager Paul Grimes said in a statement to KTVT. “Mr. Ragan served the McKinney community from March 2008 to June 2010. Our condolences and prayers are with the family. We are unable to comment further while this is an active investigation.”
Police said the two officers who fired on Bryce Ragan have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
They said that Ragan is the suspect in his parents death, but charges have not yet been filed.
