A disgraced former Louisiana mayor is currently on trial after allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old boy, at a alcohol-fueled pool party.
According to FOX News Digital, former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts Clanton, currently on trial in the 36th Judicial District Court of Beauregard Parish, stands accused of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
The incident is said to have taken place in July 2024, at a drunken pool party involving minors at Roberts’ home.
One of the teens contacted his mother, Jill Weaver, to pick him up after the defendant reportedly became frantic and started screaming at him.
Weaver, who told the court she was a friend of the defendant, testified Saturday. She stated that when she arrived at the home and asked her son why they were arguing, he replied that the defendant had “effed his best friend.”
She also admitted that in a text message, she informed her son, identified as the defendant’s nephew, to “lie ‘til you die” about the alleged encounter.
Weaver added that her son was accused of having a video of the incident, although he denied it.
“That whole night was a lot,” Weaver said, according to the American Press. “It was chaos.”
Roberts’ former husband, Duncan Clanton, also testified, claiming that Roberts told him the day after the party that she had sex with a minor.
She also allegedly pressed him to reach out to the victim’s family to, “see how they were feeling about everything.”
The defense, however, stated that Clanton’s testimony had been driven by his desire for a child custody modification, amid an ongoing custody battle.
Roberts’ daughter took the stand and claimed that she saw the defendant and the victim “on top of each other,” while Roberts’ son confirmed he, too, saw them together.
Her children, however, could not confirm if the pair were actually engaging in a sexual act.
Numerous teens at the party have testified, along with DoorDash delivery driver who said he delivered a Plan B to the home, shortly after the encounter.
Days before her 2024 arrest, Roberts resigned from her position as mayor.
