DOUGLAS, Ga. (TCN) —Â Investigators made an arrest in the cold case killing of a 39-year-old mother nearly 20 years after she was found shot to death at the business she owned with her husband.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that 58-year-old Jon Worrell was arrested May 20 on charges of malice murder, felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and aggravated battery in connection with the death of Doris Worrell. He was located in Missouri and will be extradited to Coffee County, Georgia, to face charges.
On Sept. 20, 2006, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Jon’s Sports Park after receiving a call about a shooting and found Doris Worrell deceased in an office. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived at the scene and took over the investigation, following leads both in the U.S. and abroad. After his wife’s death, Jon Worrell moved to Costa Rica with his girlfriend, Paola Yarberry. Yarberry had been living with the married couple, and she and Jon Worrell struck up a relationship.
