Georgia High School Football Coach Charged in Girlfriend’s Murder – Crime Online

A Georgia high school football coach walked into a Maryland police station Saturday morning and told officers he had strangled his girlfriend during an argument.

Carl Kearney Jr., 43, has been charged with first and second degree murder in the death of Patrina Best, 38, the Bay Net reported.

Kearney arrived at a Prince George’s County police station shortly before 9:30 a.m. Officers went to the home and found Best dead.

He reportedly told detectives he and Best were arguing earlier that morning, and he killed her.

Kearney is the head coach of the Spalding High School varsity football team in Griffin, Georgia, WAGA reported.

WAGA said that Best and Kearney both graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Kearney was signed by the New York Jets as a wide receiver in 2004 and played in preseason games for two years but never played in regular season games.
