Georgia McCann Opens Up About Overcoming an Eating Disorder

This article mentions eating disorders.

Next Gen NYC’s Georgia McCann is opening up about her road to recovery.

Georgia shared that she is in recovery from an eating disorder in an interview with People published on Aug. 29, where she said that she had been “secretly battling an eating disorder” since middle school, which would result in “flare-ups” over the years. In recent months, the event planner was “sick and tired of being sick and tired,” noting she had a “literal wake-up call” back in June of this year.

“I was tired; tired of hiding, tired of lying,” she told the publication. “I was always making excuses when people would ask if I was OK. Like, ‘I’m fine, I just haven’t been hungry!’ And I couldn’t do it anymore.”

Georgia eventually checked into a treatment center that gave her tools to put into practice. “I did a lot of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) as well,” Georgia explained. “It helped me address these intense emotions and intrusive thoughts as they came up, and taught me to identify from where they were coming so that I could let them easily pass. And that’s really worked for me.”

“I know it sounds cheesy, but I’m thankful I’m alive,” she added. “The weight I was down to, I could have died. I wasn’t a medical emergency, but I was very close to it. So I feel grateful for every moment, and every bite of food I take now.”

Georgia told the publication that she hopes by sharing her story, she can help others in a similar position. “If one person reads this and feels less alone, then it’s worth it,” she said.

“I lived in shame with this for so long,” she continued. “I felt so grotesque. And each time I’d get past a flare-up, I felt like, ‘I won’t do that again.’ But there’s never the right time to get help. And taking that step, that isn’t weakness — it’s the bravest thing you can do.”

Georgia McCann shares her plans for her future

Georgia explained to the publication that the further she got into her recovery, the more her future came into focus. “When I started letting go of control, the things that came into my life were unreal,” she said. “I got my literal dream apartment, I booked the dream project I wanted to work on, and the exact friend I needed to come into my life came into my life.”

In an Aug. 12 interview with BravoTV.com, Georgia said that “there’s so much” more to come from her career with Channel 1, an underground events company that she runs with Daniella Miles. “So, next on the gamut is world domination,” she explained. “I am starting a new company and Channel 1 business is booming. We’re going to do a big Channel 1 party sometime in the fall, and then a couple of other surprises, as well. But, yeah, we’re just focusing on world domination at this point and nothing else.”
