Georgia Mom Charged After 9-Year-Old Son Takes Loaded, Unsecured Handgun to School and Destroys Restroom Toilet With It – Crime Online

The mother of a 9-year-old boy has been arrested after the child took her loaded, unsecured handgun to his elementary school earlier this month and fired it at a toilet in a school restroom, destroying it.

Deevashea Webb was charged with a misdemeanor reckless conduct for failing to secure the 9mm handgun properly, WSB reported.

Gwinnett County School Police said Webb kept the gun in a lockbox with a broken lock and that she knew the lock was broken but didn’t fix it.

The boy took the loaded gun to school in his backpack on August 14.

After the incident the Gwinnet County School Board approved having unarmed security officers patrol elementary school perimeters to make sure doors were locked, even though the incident had nothing to do with an unlocked door.

Weapons detectors are being installed in middle and high schools in the suburban Atlanta county but not elementary schools.

Webb was arrested on August 20 and released on a $1,500 bond.

Officials said the boy had previously threatened to use [the gun] to shoot the toilet,” WANF said. He was arrested and is reportedly facing criminal charges. No one was in the restroom at the time of the incident.

According to the warrant for Webb’s arrest, she told investigators she normally searches both her sons’ backbacks before the go to school “but failed to search on this date.”
