Georgia law enforcement is in search of an armed man who struck a police vehicle and during pursuit held an infant hostage before fleeing again.
Hogansville Police Department release said they responded to a disturbance at the 500 block of Lawrence Street on Saturday in the early morning hours. An address they were called to the previous day due to a dispute with possible shots fired where they found a man fleeing, narcotics, and a firearm.
On Saturday, police encountered Jarmmal Cox, 30, who allegedly hit a police vehicle when he fled from the scene. During the police pursuit, Cox crashed his vehicle near Dickinson Street and Green Avenue. Cox fled on foot and police gave chase.
With assistance from the LaGrange Police Department and a K-9 team, officers located Cox at a home on Lawrence Street. Law enforcement had been informed that Cox was possibly armed and had taken an infant hostage inside the home. SWAT teams from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County Police Department were called in to help ensure the infant’s safety.
After hours of unsuccessful negotiations, SWAT breached the perimeter. Upon entering the residence, they found the infant unharmed, but Cox had escaped.
Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in locating Cox.
“Arrest warrants have been issued for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding. Additional charges are expected,” the release stated. Cox also has outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
