Gina Kirschenheiter opened up about her ex-husband Matt Kirschenheiter’s March 2025 heart attack on Season 19, Episode 9 of The Real Housewives of Orange County, but how is his health today?
Thankfully, Matt is “doing great,” Gina said on The Real Housewives of Orange County After Show.
“Honestly, I have to say I’m proud of him because I didn’t know how serious he was going to take it,” she added of the wake-up call that Matt experienced after his hospital stay. “It’s hard to change your lifestyle. And he really has taken it all very seriously.”
Gina specifically noted that Matt — with whom she shares three children, Nicholas, Luca, and Sienna Kirschenheiter — has been “eating so healthy” in an effort to prevent future health issues.
“He has eliminated bad things, like he barely drinks alcohol,” she concluded. “I don’t even know if he drinks any alcohol at this point.”
What happened to Gina Kirschenheiter’s ex-husband, Matt?
As Gina shared on RHOC, Matt had a “full-blown heart attack” at the age of 40 in March 2025. She credited his wife, Britt, with “saving his life,” explaining, “Britt beast-moded down to the hospital. They had to get a stent in his heart because it was 100 percent collapsed. And as soon as they got the stint in, the danger wore down.”
Gina Kirschenheiter details “rare” relationship with Matt’s wife Britt
Gina only grew closer to her ex and his new wife during his health scare, and she shared more about their relationship on the After Show.
“I love Britt. I really feel lucky that I have this friendship with her,” Gina told Emily Simpson and Tamra Judge. “Like it’s really nice, even when I’m on social media, I always see Britt show up for me. She, like, champions me. And I champion her.”
As Emily mused over how rare their dynamic is, Gina agreed. “It’s very rare, and it’s very nice, and I’m very protective of it because I know that it’s rare,” she admitted. “It’s fragile. It’s a priority to me. That relationship is a priority to me. It always will be.”
Gina also opened up about her unique relationship with Britt when she visited her and Matt after his heart attack on RHOC. As she put it, “I really feel like we parent together. And it allows me to also have a career and chase dreams — things that I wouldn’t necessarily be able to do without four parents fully committed.”

Gina Kirschenheiter opens up on her own health following Matt’s heart attack
Gina admitted on the RHOC After Show that her ex’s serious health scare has made her reevaluate her own life.
“I’ve been having my own health issues lately that I haven’t been quite able to figure out,” she said. “And I have another doctor’s appointment coming up. I just don’t feel good, like ever.”
Gina first shared on her social media in June that she was experiencing health problems, including what she believed to be vertigo, and she confirmed on the After Show it’s still an ongoing issue.
“I went to the doctor, and they ruled out vertigo, and now I have to do bloodwork,” Gina explained.

In her June 12 Instagram video, she added that her doctor suspected her issues were from her diet and insufficient water consumption, so she’s since been adjusting.
“I was really abusing, like, sweets and things. I’ve stopped that,” she said on the After Show. “I’m drinking water, which it turns out, is great…and I’m trying to figure it out, because it’s very frustrating to me.”
Gina also confessed that Matt’s scare has forced her to address other concerns.
“I don’t have a will. And I have to move my home into a trust, and things like that. I have to do these things,” she said. “God forbid something happens to me, if the last thing I’m thinking on my death bed is I didn’t set up my kids, that’s a horrible way to go. These are the things I’m taking seriously this year.”
