Girlfriend Hacks Sleeping Boyfriend in the Head With Hatchet ‘Like Splitting Wood’ – Crime Online

A North Dakota woman was charged earlier this month with attempted murder and aggravated assault after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a hatchet.

According to KVLY, police responded to the home in Fargo at about 5:30 a.m. on September 5 and found a victim who told them he had been alone and was attacked without warning. While he was taken to hospital, officers spoke with another man on the scene, who told them that Lena Deoliveira, the victim’s 23-year-old girlfriend, had attacked him.

The witness — who said all three had been was staying the home’s detached garage, according to Law&Crime — said he woke up to the sound of screaming and saw Deoliveira behind the victim with a hatchet. After she hit him, the witness said, she fled.

The witness said he saw Deoliveira swing the hatchet down and, while he didn’t see what she hit, the sound was “like splitting wood.” He said he saw two of the victim’s fingers missing or “kind of hanging,” court documents said.

The victim had surgery on his hand, and officers saw photos of his head with a large gash in it.

The suspect was arrested two days later in Moorhead, Minnesota, which is just across the Red River from Fargo.

Deoliveira made an initial court appearance on September 12 after being extradited back to North Dakota. Her next court date is October 16. She is being held on a $500,000 bond, according to InForum.
