A person of interest has been detained for questioning Wednesday in the deaths of two young girls found dead this week in suitcases in a field in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police SGT. Freddie Diaz said the person has not been arrested, WOIO reports. The person was identified while officers were serving a search warrant at an address near where the bodies were found.

Police did not say what led them to obtain a search warrant for the address.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Cuyohoga County Medical Examiner said that DNA testing had confirmed the two girls were half sisters, although they have not been positively identified.

As CrimeOnline reported, a person walking a dog found one suitcase when the dog alerted on the area. The dogwalker called 911, and police found the suitcase, along with a second one nearby. Both were in shallow graves.

Police said they believe one of the girls is between 8 1/2 and 13 years old, and the other is 10 1/2 to 14 years old.

Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd said that neither girl matched with any local children who had been reported missing.

Any with information should call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.
