Good Samaritan saves 84-year-old woman from attempted rape in park bathroom

NEW YORK (TCN) — A man has been charged with attempted rape, attempted sexual abuse, and stalking in connection with the alleged assault of an 84-year-old woman.

On March 11, 30-year-old Ian Grandison allegedly opened the door of a bathroom stall in a Manhattan park and pushed the victim, whose name has not been released, to the ground. He then allegedly pulled her pants down and attempted to assault her, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WPIX.

A witness who was also in the restroom allegedly pulled Grandison off the victim and took a picture of him before he ran off, WPIX reports.

Authorities connected Grandison to an assault on March 4 in which he allegedly followed a 51-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, kissed her, and fled in a vehicle. According to the New York Post, the victim also took Grandison’s picture.

Grandison was arrested at his apartment March 11. When police showed him the photo, he allegedly said, “That’s me.” He allegedly added that he had just gotten out of Bellevue Hospital, according to the New York Post.

His bail was set at $300,000 bond or $100,000 cash, and he is due back in court April 15, according to WPIX.
