MARKLE, Ind. (TCD) — Deputies are searching for a 37-year-old man they allege attacked and killed his 72-year-old grandmother.
According to the Huntington County Coroner’s Office, concerned family members requested a welfare check on Bernice Eubanks after they had not seen or heard from her for several days. On Sunday, Nov. 12, at around 6 p.m., Huntington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Eubanks’ home at 4127 E. –– 300 S. and found her dead from “sharp force injuries sustained as a result of an attack on her person.”
The Coroner’s Office said further evidence revealed she had been “deceased for a period of time prior to discovery.” Her death was ruled a homicide.
According to the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified the victim’s grandson, Anthony Castleman, as the primary suspect. Deputies are working with the Huntington County Prosecutor’s Office to obtain a warrant for his arrest on a charge of murder.
Deputies allege that Castleman fled the county and is trying to leave the state.
The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information about Castleman’s whereabouts to contact authorities and urged the public not to approach him.
