The Real Housewives of Orange County friend flew to Tennessee this week for a recording session at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio. Gretchen teased the trip in a couple of Instagram Stories shot just minutes before she boarded her flight. The mother of one confirmed the getaway was for both business and pleasure, as she was traveling alongside her fiancé, Slade Smiley, and their 6-year-old daughter, Skylar Gray.

“Headed to Tennessee with the fam for a recording session in the studio & to celebrate our birthdays,” she explained in the post. “Skylar’s carrying her own luggage. Good job, Sky Gray… She loves to travel.”

Gretchen returned to Instagram several hours later to reveal she was recording with Bryan Todd, a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum producer who has worked with everyone from Miley Cyrus and Kelly Clarkson to Snoop Dogg and Big Time Rush.

“Back with [Bryan] one of the best producers in the industry,” she captioned a photo of her, Slade, and Bryan at Blackbird.

Is she working on a single? A full-length project? A feature? It’s unclear at this point, as Gretchen has not shared any more details about the collaboration.

Gretchen Rossi’s Singer-Songwriter Background

Fans got their first taste of Gretchen’s musical talent more than 15 years ago, when she released “Nothing Without You,” an emotional slow-burner dedicated to her late fiancé, Jeff Beitzel. She went on to release the Bryan-produced dance track “Revelation,” and the empowering cut  “Unbreakable.”  Gretchen said the latter was inspired by Slade and his youngest son, Grayson Arroyo-Smiley, who died in 2023 after a battle with cancer.

In 2013, Gretchen debuted “The Time Is Now,” a ballad she wrote for her proposal to Slade. As seen in RHOC Season 8, Gretchen pre-recorded the track and had it played during Slade’s radio show. The song referred to Slade as the “perfect partner” and alluded to all the backlash their relationship had received.

“You’ve been there every time my life seemed broken,” she sang. “There’s no question you’re the one I’ve chosen… The world was so against us.”

Gretchen Rossi says she’s been interested in music since childhood

The self-described “serial entrepreneur” spoke about her musical background in a 2010 interview with the Los Angeles Times, saying she had been interested in songwriting years before her reality TV days.

“I’ve written songs ever since I was a little girl. I love to write. I’m a writer,” she revealed. “I have this whole book of songs that I’ve had my whole life. After Jeff passed away, it was definitely a form of how I expressed myself. And I started writing.”
