YALOBUSHA COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) — A homicide investigation is underway after an 18-year-old missing male from Arkansas was reportedly found dead in a national forest in Mississippi this week.
On March 7, the West Memphis Police Department announced that Fredarrious Wilson was missing and was last seen “wearing a yellow and white shirt, yellow pajama pants, and black Crocs.”
Police were able to track Wilson’s phone near the Holly Springs National Forest in Yalobusha County, and a search ensued, WMC-TV reports. Police worked with the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department and reportedly searched the area on Tuesday, March 7, but were unsuccessful.
Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch told WMC, “The area is very remote.”
However, on Wednesday, March 8, a U.S. Forest Service employee reportedly located Wilson’s body near County Road 243.
In a statement obtained by WREG-TV, Gooch said, “Sadly, it wasn’t the outcome we wanted. Our focus is on this investigation, making an arrest, and providing answers and closure for his family. Our prayers go out to them.”
A West Memphis spokesperson reportedly said that Wilson’s death is now considered a homicide but didn’t outline the specific details.
