The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys matriarch Kristi McBee is sharing how she really feels about son Steven McBee Jr.’s on-again, off again girlfriend, Calah Jackson.
As they reunited following their most recent split in Season 2, Episode 3, Steven promised Calah that he would make sure there wouldn’t be “anyone acting weird” if she attended Cole McBee and Kacie Adkison’s party to reveal the sex of their baby.
However, because Steven didn’t give his family a heads up that he was bringing Calah — or that she was even back in town after their breakup, for that matter — their joint arrival caught the McBees off guard, to say the least.
“I am surprised to see Calah at the gender reveal. I mean, we thought they were broken up,” Kristi said in a confessional. “We know how she feels about us all. And so it’s hard to pretend like we don’t know.” (ICYMI, Kristi caught wind that Steven’s ex-girlfriend referred to sons Cole and Jesse McBee as “hillbillies”.)

Regardless, Kristi greeted Calah with a cordial hello, before reiterating to Steven that she was “surprised” to see her at the family event. He explained that Calah would be in Gallatin “a little bit longer until she gets her apartment” in Dallas.
Cut to Kristi asking, “Why?” in a confessional, while incredulously shaking her head.
How the rest of the McBee family reacted to Calah Jackson’s return
Though Calah had only been apartment hunting in Dallas post-breakup for a little over a week, the rest of the family largely shared Kristi’s sentiments.
When Calah and Steven walked into the party together, Cole was the first to say, “He did it; I can’t believe it,” calling the scene “so embarrassing.”

Kacie, for her part, added in a confessional, “Steven didn’t tell any of us that she was coming, so it’s confusing to see her here.”
Referencing her own past drama with Calah, Kacie continued, “Even though Cal and I did make up, I’m going to be raising a McBee, so no matter what happens, I can’t side with Calah. I am a McBee, and I’m gonna have to side with them from now on.”
Finally, Jesse’s bride-to-be Alli Ventresca chimed in, “I don’t know that she was even invited, but at this point, it’s kind of hard to keep up. Are they together? Are they not together? And it changes every day.”
Inside Calah Jackson’s relationship with the McBee family
Though Calah and Steven were not back together at the time, as his family suspected might be the case, she explained the reason behind her decision to still attend Cole and Kacie’s party.
“This is Kacie’s first baby,” Calah told a producer. “This is a huge milestone for her, and so it’s important for me to show up for Kacie. But, yeah, it’s a little awkward being here.”
As for why the couple had split, following a chat with Kacie in Episode 2, Calah confronted Steven about him supposedly telling his family in the past that she “hates them” and directing them not to talk to her anymore. His alleged actions resulted in nobody reaching out to Calah after her sister’s death and led to a period of no communication between them.
Steven, meanwhile, called Calah “the most f–king pessimistic person to ever speak about my family” and insisted that he had never heard her “utter a single positive statement about anyone” in his family.
Even so, the party had Calah feeling sentimental: “Being here in Gallatin with the McBee family, you can tell they love each other and [are] very close knit,” she offered. “This feels so weird for me to say, but there is a part of me that wishes I could be part of Steven’s family.”
