Despite their breakup during Season 2, Episode 2 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, Calah Jackson and Steven McBee Jr. seem to be in a good place. However, based on the above first look at Season 2, Episode 5, Calah is still not on the best terms with the rest of the McBee family.

In the video above, Jesse McBee is heading to the big McBee family vacation at Lake of the Ozarks. Since his fiancé, Alli Ventresca, can’t come on trip, he’s driving there with Jake, one of the company’s trusted farmhands, and his girlfriend, Tegan.

As the trio is catching up in the car, Tegan mentions the huge elephant in the room: Steven Jr.’s relationship with Calah. She asks if he’s actually bringing the Dallas native on the family getaway, and Jesse confirms that she received an invite.

“She’s coming as an I don’t know what. A friend, a girlfriend, an acquaintance…” he answers.

The video then cuts to Calah and Steven, who are also driving to the lake. “Is that weird that I’m coming on a trip with you?” Calah asks her now ex-boyfriend. “No, I don’t think so,” the head of the McBee Farm & Cattle Co. responds.

However, according to his confessional, Steven Jr. may not be telling Calah the whole story. “I don’t think my family’s too happy that Calah’s coming,” he admits. “All I know is that it feels good to have Calah around.”

Back in the other car, Tegan shares her thoughts on the on-again off-again couple. “It’s like whiplash. I hear one thing, and then it’s like ‘they’re getting back together,” then I hear another,” Tegan tells Jesse.

“That’s how it is,” Jesse agrees.

Cole McBee shares his honest opinions on Calah Jackson

Later in the preview, Cole McBee and his girlfriend, Kacie Adkison discuss Calah as they drive to the lake. “I just hope Calah don’t get into it with anybody all weekend,” Cole says.

However, Kacie quips, “You’re just as mouthy as her.”

Cole then opens up about his true thoughts on Calah joining the trip in an episode interview. “I really don’t think it’s a good idea for Steven to bring Calah. They’re broken up so I don’t understand it,” he explains.

Jesse McBee weighs in on Steven McBee Jr.’s dating life

While chatting with Jake and Tegan, Jesse gets honest about Steven Jr.’s dating habits. “I think he likes being told what to do, kinda,” Jesse says. “Like, he doesn’t like being the controlling one in the relationship, ’cause he’s always had women that are kinda — not walk all over him — but, are definitely the ones that kinda wear the pants in the relationship.”

Inside Calah Jackson and Steven McBee Jr.’s on-and-off relationship

Calah and Steven Jr.’s relationship issues began in Season 1, as Calah struggled to get along with her boyfriend’s dad, Steven McBee Sr., as well as his brothers. The couple broke up, but reconciled before they started filming Season 2.

Calah’s relationship with the McBee family has only worsened in this season, specifically with Kacie and Alli. Calah cut off contact with Kacie, Alli, and the rest of the McBee family because they never offered condolences after her sister, Mallory, passed away.

However, in Episode 2, Kacie told the Dallas native that they didn’t message her after Mallory’s passing because Steven Jr. and Calah were broken up at the time, and he advised his family to stop communicating with her.

This led to their relationship-ending argument later in the episode. Although Calah made it very clear that they were over and even left for Dallas, she came back to Gallatin in the next episode and attended Kacie and Cole’s party with Steven Jr.

In Episode 4, the ex-couple seemed to be on great terms, with Steven Jr. asking Calah if she wanted to go on the McBee family vacation with him.

Although she accepted the invited, Calah was hesitant. “It just makes me a little nervous,” she admitted. “I don’t want any drama to happen. If I go down there and people are being a—holes to me, like, I’m leaving.”

We’ll have to wait until Season 2, Episode 5, airing July 28, to see what goes down at The Ozarks. Until then, see the new details Steven Jr. shared about his current relationship with Calah.
