Florida police are investigating after a homeowner found “toes sticking out of the ground” while doing yard work.
Workers told WJXT the home is a rental property and they were on the scene doing renovations with the owner when the discovery was made. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene Wednesday night and were still on scene during the day Thursday.
“We were working inside the house and then the owner came to us and said ‘Hey, there is something here. We have to call 911.’ I said OK. I was shook,” a woman who was on the scene but asked not to be identified said.
“I observed two feet sticking up out of the ground,” a deputy wrote in the incident report.

“They were all black and stuff. But I guess that was from decomposing,” the woman said. “I just hope that everything gets solved. My reaction to this is just craziness. I would never expect this, especially at a house that I am working at.”
Forensics team from the sheriff’s office and from Florida Gulf Coast University were on hand investigating. A medical examiner will try to identify the person, determine how they died, and how long they have been in the ground.
The discovery was made in the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood of northwest Jacksonville, WTLV said.
