JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (TCN) — A 51-year-old man was recently arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting his 42-year-old wife, who was found in a vehicle.
On the night of Sept. 1, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible slaying and began searching for a suspect vehicle. An officer with the Christopher Police Department located the car shortly after 9 p.m. and followed it while waiting for additional officials to arrive.
Deputies responded and performed a felony stop. The driver, John Finney, was apprehended. Officers reportedly located John Finney’s wife, Amy Finney, deceased, inside the vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed John Finney allegedly drove around for hours on Sept. 1 before he was stopped, KFVS-TV reports.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators recovered evidence suggesting the victim was killed at the Finney residence. Detectives responded to the home and felony traffic stop location.
The sheriff’s office said Amy Finney likely “died from a gunshot wound during a domestic dispute with John at their home.” John Finney faces a charge of first-degree murder and was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
