An Illinois man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter multiple times.
The Beach Park Fire Department transported the girl by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was reported to be in critical condition, The Lake and McHenry County Scanner reported.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies were called to the scene before 11 a.m. Thursday and found the girl. Demetrius Fisher, 30 — the mother’s boyfriend — was arrested at the the Waukegan Metra train station.
The sheriff’s office said Fisher lived at the home with the girl and her mother, who got a phone call at work from the child’s school asking why she wasn’t there. The mother rushed home and saw Fisher leaving the home.Fisher ran away when he saw her, and she went inside, where she found her daughter badly injured.
Investigators quickly learned the Fisher had boarded a bus and was likely headed for the train station, Sergeant Ari Briskman said, and that’s where they found him.
Briskman said the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the attempted murder charge against Fisher, who will make a first appearance in court on Friday.
