JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. (TCD) — State police are investigating the deaths of a 35-year-old mother and her three young children, who were all found shot to death in a burning home this week.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at approximately 4 p.m., emergency and fire personnel responded to the 1600 block of East Telegraph Road due to a home that had caught on fire. Firefighters went into the residence and found the bodies of four victims, and officials pronounced them dead at the scene.
The flames were extinguished, and investigators responded to the scene to look into the victims’ deaths. The deceased individuals sustained injuries “consistent with gunshot wounds,” but police have not yet named a suspect.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, state police said they identified the four victims as Naomi Briner and her children, 12-year-old Adelia Briner, 8-year-old Leland Briner, and 6-year-old Iyla Briner.
The investigation is ongoing.
