INDIANAPOLIS (TCN) — A woman is in custody after allegedly attempting to suffocate a 1-year-old child by sitting on her face unclothed.
WXIN reports police were dispatched to a home Jan. 19 for a report on a child molestation incident. Responding officers found Kendra Lee Proctor, 37, a 1-year-old child, and an adult and juvenile witness. Authorities have not named the witnesses or the child.
The adult witness reportedly told responding officers that she and Proctor had been watching a “godly” movie before the incident occurred. When the movie ended, Proctor reportedly began acting strangely and asking bizarre questions, WXIN reports. The witness checked on the 1-year-old and allegedly found Proctor sitting on the child’s face and not wearing pants or underwear.
The witness reportedly said the child was “screaming bloody murder,” so she “beat the f*** out of” Proctor when she walked in on the scene before calling the authorities.
Responding medics examined and released the child.
WXIN reports the adult witness told police Proctor said, “This is what I’m supposed to do” while allegedly attempting to suffocate the child. During the interview, police also reportedly learned Proctor might have schizophrenia.
During the investigation, police also suspected Proctor might have molested the juvenile witness too, based on video and audio captured in the officer’s car while transporting the witnesses to the station for interviews. The juvenile allegedly told the adult she had been touched inappropriately by Proctor, told to “open her legs,” and had her mouth covered by Proctor to “sacrifice her,” WXIN reports.
During Proctor’s interview, she allegedly told police that she sat on the child’s face with sexual intent and that doing so would give her money but did not specify how that would happen.
She also allegedly told police she told the juvenile witness she “would stick her finger up her butt if (the juvenile witness) didn’t stop saying crazy s*** to her,” WXIN reports. She also told police she allegedly tried to kill the baby so the adult witness would kill her.
Law & Crime reports Proctor was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of molesting a child under age 14 and is being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
