An Indiana woman was charged with murder after she allegedly shot and killed a man who honked at her when she didn’t move after a traffic light turned green.
An affidavit says that Deborah Benefiel, 23, got angry when 21-year-old Kentrell Settles honked his horn and drove around her, then followed him and fired a shot through his back window Friday afternoon, WISH reported.
Indianapolis Police were called to the scene, and Settles was found bleeding in the driver’s seat. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
“It’s beyond senseless,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears told WXIN. “The victim in this case honks his horn and ends up losing his life.”
Police used license plate trackers to locate the suspect’s SUV. She was located a few hours after the shooting and charged with murder and criminal recklessness.
Benefiel refused to speak with detectives after her arrest. She was identified as the shooter by Settles’ girlfriend, who was in the car with hi at the time of the shooting.
Benefiel is being held without bond.
