DES MOINES, Iowa (TCD) — A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, bound her with tape, tortured her, then left her outside a hospital.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, at 9 p.m., the Osceola Police Department contacted Des Moines Police to report a situation at Clark County Hospital regarding a female who said she had been kidnapped. She told police her ex-boyfriend, Jordan Mangum, went to her home at approximately 2:30 a.m., tied her up with duct tape, and took her against her will.
The 32-year-old victim said she was taken to a home in Indianola and kept captive. Then, the suspect allegedly drove her to an unknown location, choked her, slashed her throat, and ran her over with his vehicle. Des Moines Police said the victim “pleaded for her attacker to stop.”
Mangum reportedly put the victim back in the car and dropped her off in the street outside of Clark County Hospital. The Des Moines Police Department statement said the victim sustained serious wounds and required surgery.
On Sunday, Dec. 3, detectives obtained a search warrant for an Indianola residence. He was subsequently arrested for first-degree kidnapping, willful injury, and violation of a no-contact order. Polk County Jail records show he is also being charged with first-degree domestic abuse assault.
In an update, the Des Moines Police Department said detectives arrested Mangum’s alleged co-conspirator, Jessica Wheeler, on a charge of first-degree kidnapping.
The victim is reportedly still hospitalized.
