A high school basketball player in Texas who was benched for bad behavior was arrested along with his brother for attacking the coach in the parking lot after the game.
The attack happened on Tuesday at about 9:52 p.m. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Willis High School about an assault that had occurred in the parking lot at the school, authorities said in a news release.
The victim, a coach for Willis I.S.D., suffered injuries to his head, neck, face, and arms. He was assaulted by several individuals, including a student identified as Jevin Allen, 17, who returned to the school with his family after a game between Willis and Conroe, officials said.
According to the coach, Allen was benched in the game due to his behavior toward an opposing team player, which “infuriated Jevin and his family,” authorities said.

When he returned to Willis High School, he and his family waited in the parking lot, authorities said. When the coach entered the parking lot, Allen and his family were there. They approached the victim and began a verbal confrontation, then Allen punched the victim in the face, authorities said. And Allen’s brother, Jarrick Allen, 22, also allegedly began assaulting the coach, officials said.
Another coach, who witnessed the assault, and several bystanders broke up the fight, and the suspects ran. Deputies reviewed video surveillance and interviewed witnesses who corroborated the victim’s statements.
Deputies found the suspects later and arrested them on charges of assault on a public servant.
They were booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where they were released after posting a $23,000 bond each, officials said.
In a statement, the school district said the coach is recovering well, and the student is no longer enrolled, Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported.
“The investigation is ongoing, but we did determine that the student’s address was no longer valid, so he has been withdrawn from the district,” the statement said. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and will not tolerate this behavior from students.”
