An Oklahoma woman is accused of berating her 72-year-old mother, who had dementia, to the point that the older woman died by suicide with a gun that the daughter gave her.
Jaye Dee Watts, 44, is charged with felony murder by caretaker abuse and kidnapping, cops in Oklahoma City said on Wednesday. Lynda Watts shot herself on Sept. 10, but Jaye Dee Watts, her primary caregiver, is responsible, officers said.
Ring camera footage from inside the home allegedly showed Jaye Dee Wats berating her mother, according to Oklahoma City ABC affiliate KOCO.
She allegedly called the older woman a toddler and “take your pill or choke on it and die.”
“Oh, I’m raising a 72-year-old toddler,” she allegedly said. “I can talk to you however I f—— want to.”
She then left the bedroom and returned with a handgun. She showed her mother how to remove the gun from the holster.
“Do with it what you f—— will, b—-,” Jaye Dee Watts allegedly said, Oklahoma City CBS affiliate KOTV reported.
Watts got a drill and told her mother she was going to lock her in the bedroom, according to officers in the KOCO report.
Lynda fired two shots moments later, killing herself, officers said.
“Suggested that she take her own life,” police Sgt. Dillon Quirk told the outlet. “Very sadly, she did.”
Jaye Dee Watts allegedly told cops, “it sucks being a 24/7 caregiver,” according to KOTV.
She posted a $1 million bond, officers said.
