Joe Bradley and Maddi Reese’s relationship appeared to be in serious jeopardy on Southern Hospitality.
The couple returned from the cast getaway to Edisto River, S.C., during Season 4, Episode 6, but Joe kept the party going more than Maddi would’ve liked. After he woke up “a little hungover” and then showed up 23 minutes late for work at Republic, she could no longer mask that she was “a little pissed.”
As she explained to Michols Peña, Joe had told her that he was working the previous night, but when she checked his location, he was actually at another bar. “I only track Joe when he’s not responding, to make sure he’s not dead in a ditch,” she added in a confessional.

When Joe approached Maddi in the DJ booth pre-shift, the VIP host quickly clocked that he was in trouble.
“She’s obviously pissed off at me,” he told a producer. “I have no idea why. But I don’t know if I’d rather have Maddi yell at me and embarrass me in front of everyone, or to be silent like this. … The most annoying part of our relationship is when she gets mad, and I don’t know why. What did I do?”
He, nevertheless, asked Maddi what was wrong, but she remained silent. So, he walked away and said to himself, “She’s mad at me.”
Inside Joe Bradley and Maddi Reese’s explosive argument on Southern Hospitality
After their shifts ended, Maddi sat down with Joe and was much more vocal about what was bothering her.
“I’m just pissed because I feel like I’m constantly checking your location, and you’re not at Republic,” she told him. “You’re out at the bar. And I, like, don’t find it that appropriate. I support you starting a business and you bettering your life. I do not support you saying that you’re doing that, but then you’re out drinking and going on a bender.”
Joe, for his part, insisted that he “wasn’t on a bender” and that he was home and in bed before midnight. He further countered that he never told Maddi he was going to work the previous night. “Joe, that’s a lie. Why are you lying?” she fired back, prompting him to reply, “I’m not lying. What’s your deal? Like, how can we solve this?”

Maddi’s response? “To be honest, I think that we need space. I think our realities aren’t matching up. I think it’s inappropriate that you’re going out, going to after parties, well after the business is closed.”
“I’m not doing that!” Joe maintained. “I swear to f–king God. I’ll show you my f–king Uber. It’s in your f–king head. You’re spiraling.”
Even after he pulled out a receipt showing that he took a car home at 11:30 p.m., Maddi claimed he didn’t “even remember last night.” Declaring that he couldn’t “deal with this” anymore, Joe continued, “This is all in your head,” before exiting the venue and making a beeline for his truck. When Maddi eventually exited as well, their argument spilled over in the Republic parking lot.
“Keep f–king gaslighting me!” she shouted. After calling her accusation “not true,” Joe drove off and yelled through his rolled-down window, “Why would you do this?”
As Maddi tearfully vented to Michols afterward, “I’m, like, sober, and it sucks ’cause I feel like he’s going out all the time getting hammered. And then I feel like I’m a f–kin’ enabler. … I don’t know what to do.”
