Juror Dismissed Ahead of Defense Closing Argument – Crime Online

The judge removed one of the jurors from the Alex Murdaugh murder trial Thursday morning after he learned she had spoken with outside individuals and offered her opinions about the case.

Judge Clifton Newman told the court that the juror denied discussing the case with three people and that those three people “waffled” on the “nature” of the discussions, NewsNation’s Brian Entin reported.

Newman said the juror discussed her opinions on evidence received at trial. She was removed from the jury and replaced with an alternate.

Entin said the juror, who was not allowed to return to the jury room, asked for a deputy to retrieve her things — a dozen eggs, her purse, and a bottle of water — and that was done. She was escorted out of the courthouse and driven away.

“We’ve had a lot of interesting things. But now a dozen eggsm” Newman said.

Alex Murdaugh’s defense is scheduled to deliver its closing argument Thursday after the prosecution completed its arguments on Wednesday. The prosecution will have a chance to rebut the defense before Newman will deliver charging instructions to the jury.
