Kandi Burruss’ resilience is unparalleled.
Nearly a decade before joining the Bravo-verse, The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum was gearing up to release her debut solo album, Hey Kandi… The effort was preceded by her Hot 100 single “Don’t Think I’m Not” and its official music video directed by Billie Woodruff. It was an impressive introduction to Kandi’s solo career, especially when you consider that she had filmed the video just hours after being hospitalized.

Fans were reminded of the incident on September 10, when content creator DeAndré Upshaw posted a clip of the R&B visual and several behind-the-scenes tidbits.
“Behind the glam, [Kandi] was hiding wild secrets — a car accident the day before the shoot left her with stitches and no chance to dance a single step,” DeAndré wrote. “The crew camouflaged her injury with props and angles, turning what could’ve been a disaster into one of the most iconic solo debuts of the Y2K era. Pure tea.”

Kandi took to the comments section to shed more light on the accident.
“I thought the world was ending when I got hit by that car,” she commented. “It’s crazy that we still did the video the next day.”
How did Kandi Burruss conceal her injuries in the “Don’t Think I’m Not” visual?
Although she looked stunning throughout the video, Kandi was forced to keep her movements to a minimum. She was primarily filmed in a solid stance or with her leg extended, while most of her dance sequences were shot from the waist up.
The Xscape singer reflected on the video and the accident back in 2015.
“The first thing I have to say [is] I wish I can get this body back. I used to have abs of steel back then,” she told The Daily Dish. “The big secret on this video is if you watch the whole video you will notice that one of my legs stay straight through the whole video. And that was because I was hit by a car the day before the video.”

Kandi said the accident occurred as she was preparing for the video shoot in Atlanta.
“I was getting my nails done for the video, jumped out the car, the valet guy, instead of going up the hill, he hit the car in neutral,” she explained. “And I was walking behind the car and my leg got pinned between two cars.
Kandi said the incident left “a big hole” in her leg that required stitches.

“We did all these things to camouflage it, which is crazy,” she said about the video shoot. “And I was so upset because I had learned the whole damn routine. I thought I was going to break it down, and I couldn’t.”
While the shoot didn’t go as planned, it further proved that Kandi has always been an unstoppable force.
“I will work through anything,” she added. “Even getting hit by a car.”
