Kandi Burruss had fans doing a double-take as she channeled her mother, Mama Joyce Jones. On February 5, The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum blessed fans with a “bob activated” video, a social trend in which users shake their short hairstyles to the beat of Ice Cube’s 1999 track “You Can Do It.”
The Reel began with a shot of a woman standing with her back to the camera, as she began flipping her hair side to side, giving split-second glimpses at her profile.
Kandi Burruss channels her mother, Mama Joyce, with a classic bob
“Mama Joyce Bob Activated,” the video caption read, leading some to believe that the woman was Mama Joyce.
That assumption was understandable, as the hairstyle looked identical to Mama Joyce’s signature bob with classic blunt bangs. But as fans saw at the end of the video, it was Kandi who was rocking the short hairdo.
“Me thinking it was Mama Joyce the moment I seen them glasses,” one person commented.
“We really thought it was her!!” another added.
Kandi said her cousin Kinyata Dickerson “made” her do the amusing video, which has since received nearly 30,000 “likes” and over 1,500 comments.

“Despite a few bad experiences, I still love changing my hair up constantly,” she wrote. “I get tired of the same old-same old. I’m wearing it bright red now because I was bored having regular girl hair.
“I’m not going to lie, I’ve been thinking about chopping it all off again,” Kandi confessed at the time. “I’ve cut all my hair off before and let it grow back, so I’m not worried about it. Now that I’m in my 30’s, my hair is not as thick as it used to be. I don’t have a relaxer and have been wearing weaves to keep my own hair away from the heat so it can stay healthy. I love the versatility and convenience of weaves.”
Kandi is now switching up her hair looks on a daily basis, as she’s starring in the Broadway musical & Juliet. The Grammy-winning artist plays Angélique, the titular character’s confidant who wears curly auburn hair.
