New details are emerging, following the arrest of a Kentucky mother who allegedly killed her two children.
WAVE reports that 32-year-old Tiffanie Lucas is currently behind bars facing two counts of first-degree murder. Police arrested her on November 8, after finding the children, ages 6 and 9, deceased inside their home in the 200 block of Bentwood Drive in Shepherdsville.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, a neighbor found the children at about 11 a.m. in a bedroom of their home, covered in blood. At around 2:50 p.m., the children underwent surgery at Norton’s Children’s Hospital but both passed away from their injuries.
“There were two victims in the bedroom. They were covered in blood and a gun on the bed,” Col. Alex Payne, the chief deputy with the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office, said. “We did all we could.”
A witness, according to police, told deputies that Lucas shot both children. Police found a gun inside the home on a bed, and say it was the weapon used on the children.
Court records indicate that Lucas was previously arrested for drug possession and spent a month behind bars.
“Whether you think it’s mental illness, just pure evil, a combination of both, it could be substance abuse, any combination thereof. Pick your poison. None of it’s good. The result is horrific,” Payne added, according to WKLY.
“The father of one of the victims is deceased. The father of the other victim is unknown. Whereabouts are unknown. Other family members, we got hold of and made notification.”
Lucas pleaded not guilty Thursday morning during her arraignment. District Court Judge Jennifer Porter set her bond at $2 million. Should she make the bond, she cannot be around firearms, the judge ruled.
