On Thursday, August 21, The Valley cast member hopped on Instagram to share an update on her daughter, Kaia Lily. Kristen revealed that the baby had contracted a mild illness during a family getaway, but was making a strong recovery.
Kristen Doute reveals baby Kaia got sick after her “first flight”
“Baby girl caught a little cold from traveling,” Kristen captioned an Instagram photo, which showed little Kaia sleeping in her arms. “Doctor said she’s doing great and nothing to be worried about. She gained 2 lbs in 2 weeks and the second we got home from his office she was OUT.”
Kristen teased the family trip during the August 10 episode of Balancing Act, the podcast she hosts with her fiancé, Luke Broderick. The first-time parents confirmed they were heading to Luke’s home state of Indiana — a journey that would mark a big “first” for their daughter.

“We’re getting ready to take her on a plane for the first time,” Kristen said in the episode. “She’s having her first flight at eight weeks.”

Days after returning to Los Angeles, Kristen embarked on a “mom’s night out” with her castmate and fellow Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright. The pair attended “At Home with Narwal,” a summer event hosted by the robot vacuum company, Narwal Flow. Kristen stepped out in a pretty floral-print maxi dress, pointed black boots, and an effortlessly chic hairdo by Bradley Leake.
“I’m going out to an event and I’m wearing [Brittany’s] bra,” Kristen captioned a selfie. “Kaia is with daddy and they’re doing great.”
Luke Broderick proposes to Kristen Doute in Hawaii
Kristen and Luke welcomed Kaia on June 11, about nine months after they got engaged. Luke’s proposal was featured on The Valley Season 2, Episode 12, which followed the cast’s trip to Hawaii.
“Honestly, Kristen could have seen the writing on the wall,” Luke said on The Valley After Show. “I think she just truly didn’t believe there was any way I would propose that soon, because we had talked about it. Baby first. All these things.”
Kristen Doute & Luke Broderick are in no rush to start wedding planning
Kristen and Luke said they have yet to begin planning their wedding, as they are putting all of their focus on baby Kaia.
“We’ll probably start talking about [the wedding] next year. It could happen next year,” Kristen told The Daily Dish. “I don’t know. I don’t want to wait too long, but I think we need to settle into being parents and this whole chapter of our lives and really know what we’re doing before we try to plan anything else.”
Luke agreed.
“We’ll see how long it takes to really get a handle on it to where we can start planning a wedding,” he added. “But yeah, I try not to get too far ahead of myself.”
