The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Kyle Richards is offering the surprising reason her estranged husband, Mauricio Umansky, is so out and about during what he’s called his “era of being single.”
Kyle dished details on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show following Season 15, Episode 2, which saw Kyle’s reaction to the father of her children trading in his temporary condo for a secretly leased house (as seen in the above clip). This factored into why she believed Mauricio’s dating life has been fodder for the tabloids, from smooching other women at the airport to hanging out with celebs on the slopes of Aspen.
“Well, Mau goes out a lot, you know, and he actually said to me, ‘I don’t want to go home to an empty house; I don’t want to go be by myself.’ So, that’s why he goes out more, which is understandable,” Kyle told producers. “Just the other day, I was like, ‘My house is empty; I should go somewhere’… even though I was tired, so I understand that part of him.”
Although Kyle found Mauricio’s motives relatable, she admitted such adventures didn’t fit her lifestyle, choosing to be “discreet” in her own dating journey.
“I don’t need to go to the hotspots,” she said, adding that — unlike Mauricio — she tended to be a little more “aware” of paparazzi angling to catch a headline-making photo.
“It’s taken him a while to get used to that because he’s not used to being followed by the paparazzi,” Kyle continued. “So, that was new, since our separation, and he had to learn that they’re actually watching and hiding.”

Still, the diamond holder is taking the stance of “whatever will be will be,” which she has viewed as growth since her and Mauricio’s separation made news more than two years ago.
“What scared me the most about being separated at first was being alone. ‘Am I going to be alone one day?’ Or, ‘As I get older, am I going to be all alone?’” she revealed. “I like this feeling that I have right now, that I’m no longer afraid of that. And there’s a security in knowing just, like, if that happens, it happens.”

Mauricio has not revealed being in an official relationship, though he’s been very open about dating. “I’m alone. I’m single. I’m dating,” he said in a Nov. 18 interview with People. “I guess that’s my era.”

As Kyle and Mauricio try to find even ground amid their separation, they’re still on great terms, reuniting frequently for their children, Farrah Aldjufrie, Alexia Umansky, Sophia Umansky, and Portia Umansky. Kyle made that clear at last month’s BravoCon 2025, part of the Livin’ in Beverly Hills panel on Nov. 14, admitting she and her husband “live[d] separate lives.”
“It’s just a given, but we are really grateful that we really love and care about each other enough that we put our children and our family first, and we’re able to go about this separation in a very amicable, loving way,” Kyle maintained.
