Portia Umansky knows life-changing decisions should never be rushed.
As she approaches her high school graduation this spring, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills daughter is facing one of the biggest questions of her young adult life: Where will she attend college? Her mother, Kyle Richards, previously revealed that Portia had already received acceptance letters from multiple schools; however, she opted out of early-decision admissions, as she wasn’t quite sold on one specific college.
“She’s deciding right now,” Kyle said during her February 3 Amazon Live stream. “She did not do early-decision anymore because she wasn’t 100 percent about any place, so she’s looking at all her options right now. She has some really amazing options.”
Kyle Richards weighs in on Portia Umansky’s college search
Kyle said she and Portia — whom she shares with her estranged husband, Mauricio Umansky — discussed her college commitment plans during a recent dinner. She said the soon-to-be 18-year-old was still eyeing schools outside of California, but wasn’t thrilled with the prospect of cold-weather months.

“She’s like, ‘I love this school, and it’s a great school, but it’s freezing at this place,’” Kyle recalled.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mom said she would like Portia to select a college closer to home, as her other daughters, Sophia Umansky, Alexia Umansky, and Farrah Brittany, all went to school on the East Coast. Sophia graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and Alexia graduated from Emerson College in Boston. Farrah, Kyle’s firstborn from her previous marriage, attended New York University before transferring to the University of Southern California.
Kyle said Portia was considering a school that had no direct flights to or from Los Angeles, which, of course, concerned Kyle.
“I was like, ‘What if there’s an emergency?’ And she’s like, ‘Well, then that’s a long day for you to get to me, isn’t it mom?’” Kyle recalled. “So, we’ll see. My other girls, I had a five-hour flight to go see them, which I did, and I survived, but I would love for her to go some place that’s not as far, because she’s my last.”

Elsewhere in the stream, Kyle reflected on just how quickly Portia has grown. She reminded viewers that her daughter was just a toddler when she made her Bravo debut in the inaugural season of RHOBH (2010).
“The funny thing is, she’s been on TV since she was 1 year old,” Kyle said. “We had her second birthday party on Season 1. So, she went from diapers to going to college… It’s just so weird to think that she’s gonna be leaving and going to college. But we won’t talk about that because it’s a happy day. I’m so happy for her.”

“She’s a little pistol,” Kyle’s friend Nurse Jamie said.
“She definitely is,” Kyle replied.
