An Illinois man is behind bars after his wife ran out of her home and sought help from a landscaper, saying her husband was trying to kill her.
Buffalo Grove police say the landscaper shielded the woman from 34-year-old Cody Romano as he tried to drag her back into their home, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner reported.
Investigators say Romano damaged the 29-year-old woman’s hone and tried to suffocate her with a pillow, telling her he intended to kill her. But she broke free and ran outside, where she quickly found the landscaper.
Romano eventually fled the scene but returned and was taken into custody.
He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for a medical episode before being booked into jail.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Romano with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, a misdemeanor domestic battery, and interfering with the reporting of domestic battery.
