‘Like a war zone’ – Crime Online

One man died and four others were injured Friday in what authorities said appeared to be a deliberate shooting targeting homeless people in Las Vegas, Fox 5 reports.

The victims were shot around 5:30 p.m. in the northeastern part of the city near a freeway overpass.

A man in his 50s whose identity was not released was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the surviving victims was hospitalized in critical condition and three others were reported to be in stable condition.

All five victims were unhoused.

Robert Tully, who knew some of the victims, described to the Las Vegas Review-Journal the disturbing scene where the shootings occurred. He said the area included tarps, empty food packages, dirty clothing and blood on the sidewalk.

“It’s disgusting,” Tully told the newspaper. “That’s just how it looked around here, like a war zone.”

Tully told the Review-Journal that the shooter had concealed his face and fired a handgun at the victims before fleeing.

“There was no argument or nothing. Everybody was talking, you know, I mean, he just showed up and shot us. He focused on the men. There were women there, too. He took aim at the men and shot all five of them,” Tully told the newspaper.

“All of a sudden it was bam, bam, bam, bam.”

No arrests have been announced.

The shootings in Las Vegas occurred as authorities in Los Angeles were searching for someone believed to be responsible for gunning down three homeless men there within the past week.

Police on Saturday announced the arrest of 42-year-old Jerrid Joseph Powell in connection with the Los Angeles killings. Powell was also charged in connection with the robbery and murder of a fourth man who was not homeless.
