While Lisa Barlow navigated a difficult chapter in her marriage to husband John Barlow on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, she realized that they had been “on different pages” for quite some time.
On the heels of her emotional, “spot-on” psychic reading at Whitney Rose’s lunch, Lisa shed new light on her and John’s marital issues in a confessional during Season 6, Episode 6.
“There’s not a specific catalyst for this,” she explained to a producer. “It’s been going on since we got married, and it’s because there’s blurred lines between business, family, and marriage. Like, I manage the entire house, plus I work.”
As Lisa tearfully continued, “Sometimes I just think that I’m taken for granted. … Like, I’m f—g exhausted sometimes. Those are the moments when I’ll go, like, sit in my car and cry to my dad and just [be] like, ‘I’m just having a tough day.’ Those are the conversations I have with my dad, ya know, and not John.”

Adding that she felt like her needs were not “always heard” in their marriage, Lisa also shared some guidance that she’d given her husband of 22 years.
“I tell John all the time, ‘Treat me like glass. I know I can be like a f—g bulldog, but my feelings can get hurt and, like, you can shatter me,'” she shared, as her voice broke and she dabbed tears from her eyes. “And I think that’s, like, where I feel like I get missed. And I think that’s when you’re on different pages. And I think that frustrates me.”

Lisa sat down with John during RHOSLC‘s Oct. 21 episode to discuss how the psychic had immediately picked up on the cracks in their marriage.
“It really resonated when he said, ‘You guys are having communication problems. Like, you’re not on the same page with things,'” she debriefed John. “There’s a part of me that’s like, ‘Yeah, it’s true.'”
John, for his part, chimed in, “We aren’t on the same page because I don’t think you want to hear what I have to say because you’re already in your head thinking that you’re right.”

That’s when Lisa brought up a tense interaction they’d recently had, to illustrate her point about their communication struggles.
“When the other day you said to me, ‘Hey, you could listen to me, just to show me what I say matters,’ it’s like, I think that there’s some truth to what you said,” she elaborated. “But I don’t think it’s just me. Like, I say certain things and then it’s just, like, checked out, ya know? It’s not just one sided.”
John began to ask, “So, is that a me thing or a you thing or…?” before she interjected, “No, it’s a thing thing. I don’t know.”
Lisa concluded, “We’ve been together a long time, and nothing’s perfect,” to which John replied, “Well, everything you do is perfect; it’s just me.”
