The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member has been tapped to appear on Worst Cooks in America: Reality Check, a cooking series in which 10 celebrities compete for a $25,000 donation to a charity of their choice. Lisa teased the season in a January 4 Instagram post, confessing her kitchen proficiency was severely lacking before she joined the show.

“I had only ever made hotdogs in the microwave,” she captioned a still from the premiere episode. “Stuffed shells (1x) and cinnamon toast. Let’s see how this goes.”

The post showed Lisa standing over a pot with a ladle in hand, while fellow constant Manila Luzon did the same.

“And now an egg!” Manila commented.

Lisa Barlow explains why she joined a cooking competition show

Lisa and Manila were joined by Amara La Negra, Ryan Lochte, Downtown Julie Brown, Christopher Michael ‘CT’ Tamburello, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Romeo Miller (Lil’ Romeo), Beverley Mitchell, and The Valley: Persian Style’s Reza Farahan. The baseline challenge saw Lisa prepare a mac-and-cheese type of dish that didn’t exactly get rave reviews. For the elimination challenge, the contestants were asked to make couscous and marinated chicken. Lisa’s dish kept her safe, while Reza’s secured him the win.

Lisa spoke about her culinary skills — or lack thereof — in an interview with Food Network, admitting she found cooking to be too time-consuming.

“I love fine dining, I love eating out,” she said, “but I don’t cook … Cooking takes too much time. You have to go to the grocery store, look around, find everything. By the time I get home, I’m too tired to make anything.”

Lisa told the network she wanted to join the competition in an effort to improve her cooking techniques and potentially impress her family.

“[I’m] sick of being the brunt of the joke in my house,” she added. “I just want to be like, ‘OK, I’m making dinner tonight.'”

Lisa Barlow sheds more light on her and her family’s diet

While she’s quite open about her affinity for fast food, Lisa insisted she and her family ate very well. She shed more light on her eating habits during a November 2022 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, when the titular host bluntly asked the audience if they believed Lisa drank too much diet soda.

“I’m gonna even raise my hand for that,” Lisa said. “But I love it, I’m not quitting… I eat a lot too. A lot of people don’t think I eat. I eat a lot. I eat healthy too. We used to own a five-star restaurant in Park City. Like, I have a good diet too.”

She made similar comments during her house tour for BravoTV.com, when she revealed what was inside her refrigerator.

“What we always have in our fridge: milk, waters, flavored waters,” Lisa said. “You know I love my cheese. I live on cheese and chocolate; so we always have a lot of cheese, fresh-cut veggies — my kids [Jack Barlow and Henry Barlow] are nourished — and fresh salads.”
