Long Island Teen Guns Down Ballerina Ex-Girlfriend in Botched Murder-Suicide – Crime Online

Eighteen-year-old Emily Finn came home from State University of New York Oneonta on the day before Thanksgiving and went to her ex-boyfriend’s home to return some of his belongings.

She didn’t leave alive.

Suffolk County Police say her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend shot her to death and then shot himself in the face, Newsday reported. His parents heard the gunshots and called 911. Finn was dead, but the boy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Austin Lynch, who turned 18 the next day, has been charged with second degree murder, The New York Post said.

Finn spent years dancing with  the American Ballet Studio in Bayport, where she was a talented and compassionate dancer, artistic director Kathy Kairns-Scholz said. The studio is dedicating its performances of “The Nutcracker” to her this year.

Finn was studying to be a teacher at SUNY, with a minor in dance.

The Youth Peace and Justice Foundation announced it would sponsor an annual scholarship in her name.
