The relationship between Captain Sandy Yawn and Malia White isn’t restricted to the mentor-mentee label. The pair has also become really good friends.
This was repeatedly proven throughout 2025, as Malia documented her steady stream of world travels. The Below Deck Mediterranean alum has taken to Instagram to share photos and videos of her trips, most of which received “likes” from her former boss, Captain Sandy. One of Malia’s most recent adventures went down in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she and her loved ones visited The Sun Voyager sculpture, took a dip in a lagoon, enjoyed some local fare, and watched the Northern Lights.
“We almost missed the Aurora because we were watching The Office,” Malia captioned the December 15 carousel.

Malia also posted a November 3 photo from her sailing lesson off the historic English village of Blakeney, Norfolk.
“Sails once… immediately looks up sailboat prices,” she captioned the photo, before shouting out Sail North Norfolk owner Zoe Dunford. “Thanks for the lessons [Zoe].”
On October 27, Malia gave fans an inside look at her fun-filled trip in Southern Italy, where she boarded a submarine, ate pasta and gelato, soaked up the sun, and encountered a lot of four-legged friends.
“Submarines, pasta & a shit ton of cats,” she wrote in the post. “Ciao Sicily!”

But Malia’s travels weren’t strictly for pleasure. She also spent time on the Savannah superyacht in Dorset, England, working on the set of The Woman in Cabin 10. The psychological thriller film was directed by Simon Stone and starred Keira Knightley. Malia signed onto the project as an advisor.

The Winter House cast member spoke about her experience in an interview with Captain Sandy’s Charities.
“We were on board with the actors and for certain scenes, like there’s the man overboard scene, or the mayday in the bridge,” Malia explained. “We talked them through how it would actually happen and what protocols we would actually follow.
“A lot of the movie was filmed at sea, so it was just making sure that everything was done slowly, safely,” she continued. “An example would be that no actors were going down onto the swim platform when we are in DP or we were underway. We always had eyes and ears everywhere so that we could account for everyone’s safety.”

Weeks before sharing the BTS post, Malia reunited with Captain Sandy and Captain Kate McCue at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show.
“I’m continually inspired by these two women!” she captioned the September 30 photos, followed by the hashtag, “She’s the captain now.”
Captain Sandy reacted to the post in the comments section, writing: “Love this! It was great seeing you and Katie!”
