Man accused of having a torture room in his Alabama home pleads guilty to child sexual abuse

MOBILE, Ala. (TCN) — A man may spend his life behind bars after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse charges.

Adam James Renk, 40, was scheduled to go to trial, WLOX reports, but chose to enter a blind plea, meaning no sentencing agreement has been made and the judge will make the final decision.

Renk pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, and sexual abuse of a child younger than 12, according to WLOX, and has pending charges in Oregon.

In 2024, an investigation alleged that Renk had a room in his home specifically dedicated to torture and that he restrained an 11-year-old girl in it and paddled her for his sexual pleasure, WLOX reports.

On Aug. 27, 2024, the Mobile District Attorney announced they had charged Renk the previous month and the Mobile Police Department was searching for him.

Renk surrendered to authorities and was arrested in October 2024 after a U.S. Marshals Service task force led a search for him, WLOX reports.

Renk’s co-defendant, 43-year-old Natasha Dee Still, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a child abuse charge related to allowing the child to be restrained, WLOX reports. All but one year will be suspended and she will receive credit for time served, according to the outlet. After her release, she will remain on probation for five years.

Renk is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 11, WLOX reports.
